Belt Testing Requirements

In order for a student to be eligible to belt test there are three requirements that must be met:

  1. Class Attendance – Students must attend at least the minimum number of classes that are designated for their current belt color. The chart below contains the  minimum number of classes for each belt rank.
  2. Time in Current Rank – Students must be training in their current belt rank for at least the minimum amount of time listed on the chart below and have attendance recorded for the duration of that time.  Also, leading up to their test they will need to be in attendance for the month prior to testing so that they will be properly prepared for their test.
  3. Belt Stripes – Students must have all of their curriculum stripes awarded. These stripes can be awarded after class by asking the instructor to test them on the material they are eligible to test for. Curriculum Stripe eligibility coincides on a 1:1 basis with the number of attendance stripes they have received. (example: If a student has 2 attendance stripes then they are eligible for 2 curriculum stripes)

Belt Testing Requirements

In order for 4-7 year old students to belt test they will need to have a minimum of 16 classes and two months of attendance recorded prior to their testing date.  This requirement holds for each of their belt ranks leading up to their transition into the 8 years old and above Solid colored belt ranks. During the course of their practice, at each level, they will earn both curriculum and attendance stripes on each side of their current belt.  Achieving these stripes are a requirement to be eligible for belt testing.

Attendance & Curriculum Stripes

Students earn a yellow curriculum stripe when they have completed 5 classes.  At the end of class students are encouraged to ask an instructor where they stand on their class count and receive an attendance stripe if eligible.

Curriculum stripes are awarded on a revolving basis as per the curriculum set they are currently working on in class.  Every few weeks students will work on a new set of curriculum that coincides with a particular colored stripe that represents their knowledge of that piece of the curriculum when earned.  Once a student can demonstrate proficiency with their new skill set, the instructor will award the student in class with the coinciding colored stripe.  Emails will be sent to all students in the 4-7 year old program at the start of each new curriculum set cycle with an announcement of the stripe color that shall be awarded upon completion.

*If your student happens to miss a stripe due to absence please contact us at (925) 639-4096 via text to let us know your child’s name, which stripe was missed, and we’ll do our best to bring your child up to date on their curriculum requirements.
